Inauguration of the permanent exhibition hall

Le Réveil announces the inauguration, on Wednesday 8 May 1985 at 4 p.m., of Antoine Berberi's permanent exhibition hall at the « Amwaj » centre in Jounieh. As consultant sculptor to the project, he presents there 27 bronzes cast with his own hands using the lost-wax method, together with sketches in gouache, pastel and watercolour. Among the pieces photographed is « Zarathoustra devenu chien, d'après Raymond Gebara » (Zarathustra Turned Dog, after Raymond Gebara), the sculpture that he will give, a few days later, to the man of the theatre whose work gave the sculpture its title. The newspaper quotes the artist: « My dream was to have, somewhere in the mountains, a house where I would have set up a studio and a small exhibition hall. » A box-out traces his major commissions since 1967: busts of Dr Neubar Arpiarian, of Bishop Antonios Bachir, of the poet Ahmad Chawki and of President Fouad Chéhab, the monument to Lieutenant Samir Chartouni, and an imperial commission of four sculptures for Shahinshahi Park in Tehran.
